Christine and family are still out in Chamonix.
Carl (our gold medallist) has returned to Chamonix for the rest of the season
Gill and I went out for a long weekend (Gill extended to make it a week)
We had glorious sunshine and beautiful blue skies, along with really lovely snow, and we took a day trip to the Vallee blanche. 8.30am we met with our guide at the bottom of the lift to the Aiguille du Midi (3842m) just below Mont Blanc, took the cable car up, got into harnesses and clipped onto a rope then walked down the roped route to the top of the glacier plateau to start skiing. We took a fabulous route, around crevasses and down couloirs, even having to be roped and lowered down an area around a beautiful ice wall, on skis.
It was fun and quite tiring on the legs but worth it all to see such magnificent scenery.
The other days we cruised around the various areas of Le Tour and Grand Montet, with Christine, Graham and their children, and other friends who joined us, hardly having to queue at lifts and enjoying lovely almost empty pistes.
Back to sunny London – Christine says hi to everyone.
Tues 8th December – day trip to Snowdonia, leaving 5am, contact Cec if interested.
Sun 13th December – day trip to Stanage, Derbyshire, contact Cec if interested, leaving 6.30am lots more to follow.
SNOWDONIA WINTER SKILLS WEEKEND! This very popular traditional weekend away will be on Fri 5th to Sun 7th Feb 2010. Because it gets difficult to book accommodation up there and we are planning to stay at the Pen y Pas Youth Hostel this time, we need to make the booking very soon, so please let Jane or Julie know by FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER if you want to come.
Also don’t forget the pub night on the last Thursday of each month (that’s this week) – it’s a great social evening as well as a perfect chance to plan last-minute climbing or walking trips for the coming weekend.
And finally, Seven Sisters walk is this Sunday, 28th Nov – meet at Aspire 8am.
